KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has fined a doctor RM120,000, in default of three month' jail, for failing to register his practice with the Health Ministry.

Dr Basmullah Yusof, 45, of Pusat Perubatan Al¡¯ Hilal Sdn Bhd was found to have operated his clinic in Desa Petaling for 10 years without registering with the ministry when the premises was inspected by health officers on July 17 last year.

The doctor pleaded guilty when he was charged on Dec 13 under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act.

Judge S.M. Komathy Suppiah said the fine imposed reflected the seriousness of the offence as it involved public interest.

Dr Basmullah, who was unrepresented, was unable to pay the fine.
